Sortition in Student Government

  1. An excellent opportunity for a practical experiment in sortition. Stanford first and then to infinity and beyond. Needless to say I’m attracted by the argument that the role of the student jury should be limited to judgment alone. The parallel with an allotted legislature is pretty much exact — the legislature should simply judge the merits of the proposals made to it, and steps should be taken to ensure that the advocacy for each proposal is equalized.
